Abstract
This study examined the psychometric properties of the Multidimensional Co-Parenting Scale after Divorce (MCS-DR) in the Iranian population. Given the rising divorce rate in Iran and the impact of co-parenting on children's mental health, a valid assessment tool is essential. In this cross-sectional study, the Persian version of the MCS-DR-F was administered to 207 divorced parents. The factor structure was analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability was assessed via Cronbach’s alpha (0.756–0.880), McDonald’s omega (0.742–0.872), and composite reliability. Convergent validity was supported by an AVE index above 0.50, and discriminant validity was established through the HTMT index. Criterion validity was examined using the Parenting Stress Index Short Form (PSI-SF), revealing a significant positive correlation between conflict and parenting stress (r = 0.482, p < 0.01) and a negative correlation between support and parenting stress (r = -0.395, p < 0.01). The findings confirmed the questionnaire’s four-factor structure—Support, Overt Conflict, Covert Conflict with Internal Regulation, and Covert Conflict with External Regulation—showing good data fit (CFI = 0.92, RMSEA = 0.06). Results indicate that the Persian MCS-DR is a valid tool for assessing co-parenting after divorce in Iran, suitable for research, clinical interventions, and legal contexts. Additionally, cultural differences in correlation patterns among co-parenting dimensions were observed, suggesting unique characteristics within Iranian society.
